Kohima: Rev. Dr. Chekrovei Cho-O, executive secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council, opened the Tana-Bana District Handloom Expo on July 13. The event sits on the Baptist Theological College ground in the Mission Compound of Pfutsero. It runs until July 18, 2026.
Forty master weavers and artisans from across Nagaland brought their gear. They packed the venue with traditional fabrics and handicraft products. Every piece highlights deep tribal roots. The work shows off intricate craftsmanship and distinct identities.
The Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd organizes the event. New Delhi’s Office of the Development Commissioner, under the Ministry of Textiles, foots the bill. They want results. Organizers aim to bridge the gap between rural makers and modern shoppers.
The plan connects local talent to domestic and international export markets. According to the NHHDC Ltd deputy general manager, the expo "seeks to enhance the economic empowerment of grassroots weavers and artisans, ensuring long-term growth and resilience for Nagaland's traditional handloom and handicraft sectors." Success depends on these new, sustainable trade channels.
