Kohima: Thirty-two volunteers from St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, trekked to Gangtok, Sikkim. They represented Nagaland at the North East NSS Festival 2026. The event ran from July 16 to 20 at SC Bhawan. It brought together 300 students and officers from across the region. Organizers included the Sikkim State NSS Cell, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, and the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Days started with Zumba and ended with cultural performances. The schedule packed in talks on disaster management, mental health, biodiversity, waste management, cyber crime, and substance abuse. Participants also engaged in My Bharat activities. The college noted the impact of the trip. "For the contingent from St. Joseph’s College, the festival was an opportunity to represent the state with discipline and enthusiasm while gaining exposure to a wider network of NSS volunteers."
Nagaland’s team competed by performing a folk dance from Meghalaya. Bemolongmang M. Chang and Visulu Rume took top honors in the quiz. Vuruthong landed second runner-up in a PPT presentation covering state topography, demography, and cultural heritage. Programme Officers Vikato Swu and Tokani L led the group. The college thanked the NSS Cell Nagaland, the Nagaland Department of Youth and Sports, the Regional Directorate Office NSS in Guwahati, and the NSS Cell Sikkim for the trip.
