Shillong: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk demanded sweeping reforms to the nation's education system and governance on Saturday. This call follows Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation in Gurugram on July 25. Wangchuk welcomed the move after intense student protests pushed the government to act.
The activist praised the youth for their role in the outcome. "I congratulate all my fellow countrymen, this is a victory for democracy that we witnessed today," Wangchuk told reporters. He credited the Cockroach Janta Party team and volunteers for highlighting the issue.
Wangchuk urged the public to stay peaceful despite scattered reports of violence during the agitation. He asked protesters to remain humble, claiming that peace is the only effective weapon against injustice. He emphasized that nation-building requires more than a single resignation.
The movement must now target systemic change, he said. Wangchuk expressed hope that the country will move away from fear, choosing instead to lead with truth and affection. He believes the government will eventually abolish corruption, helping India become a global example for the world to follow.
