Sikkim students rally for education reform and Sonam Wangchuk

Gangtok: Sikkim students staged peaceful rallies July 20 to back education reformer Sonam Wangchuk. They want a cleaner, fairer system. Over 15 law students met near the District Administrative Centre in Gangtok. They acted as individuals rather than representatives of any specific college or student council.

Participants carried signs demanding fair exams and better accountability. The group stressed that national issues like paper leaks threaten local students. They argued that education must offer equal opportunity to everyone. Policymakers need to fix these lapses now. They want to restore public trust in competitive testing.

Separately, the Sikkim University Students Association led gatherings at both its Gangtok and Yangang campuses. Research scholars and students joined the events. The association stated that the demonstrations were held to acknowledge the struggles of youth in Delhi currently demanding transparency. The SUSA statement said, "The gatherings were conducted peacefully and responsibly, reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, constructive dialogue and the collective welfare of students."

Protesters remained orderly. No violence occurred during the events. Both student groups focused on systemic change to protect the integrity of future exams.
