SIT Arrests Driver in Namsai Shooting Investigation

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested the driver of a Maruti Suzuki WagonR connected to a July 17 shooting in Namsai. The Special Investigation Team, or SIT, took the suspect into custody as they continue a deep forensic search for evidence. The case began after a 29-year-old woman suffered gunshot wounds. She received initial care at the Namsai District Hospital before police escorted her to Dibrugarh, Assam, for better treatment.

The investigation grew complex on July 18. Namsai Police Station Case No. 44/2026 was filed after the 8th Assam Rifles reported a counter-insurgency incident. Charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act of 1959 now include sections 109(1), 132, 61(2), and 3(5). Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley leads the SIT, while Dy SP Kengo Dirchi manages the daily fieldwork.

Officers seized the vehicle and sent it to a forensic lab. Forensic teams gathered biological, ballistic, and electronic data to build a ironclad case. A second investigation, Namsai PS Case No. 45/2026, started after the victim filed her own complaint against unknown attackers. The department stated, "The investigation is being carried out from all possible angles to ensure no evidence is overlooked and that the true facts and circumstances surrounding the incident are established." Authorities warned the public to ignore rumors until officials release further updates.
