Guwahati: Namsai Police rescued 19 children across Arunachal Pradesh and arrested three suspects linked to a trafficking operation. The victims were found in Mechuka, Aalo, Pasighat, Naharlagun, Itanagar, and Longding. Investigators have now detained Gumnya Kochung, Marta Ete, and Neha Gerory for their alleged roles as brokers.
The operation began after the Namsai Child Welfare Committee filed a formal complaint on August 17. A Special Investigation Team, led by SP Sangey Thinley, now manages the case. DySP Kengo Dirchi serves as the lead investigator. "The investigation and rescue operation are continuing," Thinley confirmed on Monday.
Traffickers targeted poor families with false promises of education and care. Some children worked in hotels or as domestic help. Records show payments between 10,000 and 50,000 rupees for individual children. Many victims are under eight years old. One child was only three years old at the time of procurement. Several children could not even name their own parents.
Police have placed the victims in child-protection programs after mandatory medical checks. Magistrates are recording their statements to build the case. Officers are currently tracking financial records and digital data to find more victims. The Namsai Police urged the public to report any information regarding missing children or suspicious intermediaries immediately.
