Gangtok: Members of the Limboo community marched through Gangtok on Sunday, August 9, to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. The Sukhim Yakthung Sapsok Songchumbho, or SYSS, coordinated the event. Participants gathered at Titanic Park on MG Marg and walked through Ranka Stand to reach Limboo Bhawan.

The group carried signs focused on unity and cultural preservation. SYSS president A B Subba spoke to the crowd about protecting their roots. He stated, "Collective efforts to safeguard the community’s identity and ensure that its cultural heritage is passed on to younger generations" are essential. Birendra Tamling, advisor to the Chief Minister, attended as the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Limboo customs, religious faith, and traditions.

Performers demonstrated the traditional Chyabrung or Kelang and Nagra dances. Scholars also held presentations on Limboo Mundhum, the community's oral scripture. Organizers handed out letters of recognition to three members for their recent achievements: State NEET Topper 2026 Richa Subba, Ingsa Hang Subba, and Budhi Lekwahang.
