Gangtok: A massive landslide near the Indo-China border has entered its tenth day. The disaster hit 7th Mile in Kyongnosla village, East Sikkim. It completely wiped out the old Jawaharlal Nehru Road. This route is a vital link for Indian Army camps in the area. Sixty-five families fled their homes. They now huddle in temporary relief camps while the earth keeps moving.

Locals say the destruction is total. No government official has visited the site. No administrator has spoken to the victims. The road falls under the General Reserve Engineer Force. According to residents, the GREF claims the route is obsolete because an alternative exists. They also cited a lack of restoration funds.

Residents fear the alternative route will fail next. If another landslide hits, the border area will be cut off completely. The community issued a stern demand for action. They want the Government of India and the Government of Sikkim to step in. One resident stated: "The damaged stretch falls under the jurisdiction of the General Reserve Engineer Force." The families are waiting for a safety assessment and permanent repairs to stop further ruin.
