Kohima: The Seyochung Area Students' Union issued a three-month ultimatum to the Nagaland Works and Housing Department on July 20. They demand the completion of the PMGSY-III road connecting Seyochung Town through New Monger, Old Monger, and Seyochung Village. Years of delays have left residents isolated. Landslides frequently block the route. Construction crews remain absent, forcing students and patients to suffer the consequences of broken transit.
A recent landslide trapped a dumper truck carrying materials for the Old Monger Baptist Church for five days. The union noted the site crew ignored every request for help. Fed up, the Village Council eventually cleared the debris by hand after waiting six days for action. The Union described the current progress as "highly unsatisfactory."
Local patience has snapped. The Old Monger Village Council issued a separate seven-day deadline on July 17 to the contractor, M/s Vizheto Sumi. They cite consistent hardship caused by blockages that have plagued the area since last year. The Union warned of democratic action if the state fails to make the road motorable. They sent copies of their demand to the Engineer-in-Chief, the Chief Engineer of PWD, the Kiphire Executive Engineer, the ADC of Seyochung, and local PMGSY officials.
