Imphal: Security forces captured an active member of the KCP (Paikhomba) faction on September 18. A joint team consisting of the CDO/Imphal East and the 8 Bihar Regiment pulled off the operation near Babina Hospital in Sajiwa.
They identified the suspect as 25-year-old Yenkhom Gyandash Singh. He also goes by the aliases Dinku and Chaningkhomba. Officers searched the man and found a pistol and several extortion notes in his possession. The arrest points to his heavy involvement in illegal rackets run by the outfit.
Authorities are now working to piece together the rest of the puzzle. Investigators are digging into the intended use of the weapon and the exact nature of the extortion scheme. Security sources stated, "The arrested person has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings, while the investigation into the case is continuing." The suspect remains in custody while police conduct further inquiries.

In a separate sweep, Imphal East commandos and the 33rd Assam Rifles picked up Longjam Romen Singh, 45, at Lamphel Super Market on September 18. Investigators later tracked down his 28-year-old stepdaughter, Baby Sanabam alias Babysana, on September 19. Both are allegedly tied to the KCP (PWG) faction.
Police allege Sanabam ordered Singh to plant hand grenades at Shija Hospital in Langol, promising him 30,000 rupees for the job. The plot links back to an August 31 incident at the hospital where a bomb disposal squad neutralized a live grenade found near a public toilet. Officers seized three mobile phones and a Mahindra Thar SUV during the arrests.
Separately, police are investigating a live grenade left at a Khergao Awang Sabal Leikai residence on Saturday. That device was chained to the gate alongside a press note naming three individuals, though no outfit has claimed the threat.
