Search Ends for Missing Assam Flood Victim

Guwahati: Search teams pulled the body of Tutumoni Duwara from floodwaters in Assam on Wednesday. The recovery marks the end of an 11-day search for the resident of Abhayapuri village in Charaideo district. Her death confirms all four family members perished after flash floods hit their home on July 19.

The tragedy began when floodwaters forced the family to evacuate. The current trapped Tutumoni and her daughter, Bidisha Duwara, age 30. Both were dragged away. Bidyut Duwara, 36, and Biplab Duwara, 25, jumped in to help but the water proved too strong. The search teams recovered the children's bodies earlier in the operation.

This incident remains one of the hardest hits in Upper Assam this monsoon. Officials confirm the state's flood death toll has reached 75. Over 3.32 lakh people across multiple districts remain under the threat of rising water. Authorities stated, "Authorities are continuing relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations in the worst-hit areas." Work continues as the state struggles to get a handle on the disaster.
