Guwahati: Floodwaters are finally dropping in Assam's Charaideo district. The scale of the destruction is now clear. Thousands of families in Tengapukhuri and surrounding areas lost everything when the deluge swept through their villages. Homes, shops, and livestock vanished under the tide.
One local survivor watched his shop crumble. He described the total loss of his family business. "My shop has also been damaged. Whatever we earned is finished. My twenty years of income was washed away. Not only me, but almost everyone here has suffered," he said. Water sat stagnant in the area for four full days, a duration he noted was far worse than any previous flood cycle.
Residents are stuck. Many families remain on roadsides or elevated ground because their homes are too dangerous to inhabit. The disaster left behind thick layers of silt on everything from floors to farm plots. Survivors are now begging for government intervention to help them rebuild homes and restart their dead businesses. They need financial aid to survive the aftermath of what is being called one of the worst floods the region has seen in years.
