Guwahati: Four people went missing after a flash flood hit Lakuba Abhayapuriya village in Assam. The disaster struck at 7 pm on Sunday under the Tengapukhuri Police Station. Rising water forced Rohini Dubara and his family to flee their home. They tried to reach higher ground on foot.
Tutumoni Dubara and her daughter Bidisha lost their footing in the current. Bidyut and Biplab Dubara jumped into the water to save them. All four vanished into the surge. The family contacted the district emergency line. They claim nobody picked up. They reached Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Neha Yadav by phone. She promised to send help.
Villagers waited in the rain. By 1 pm on Monday, no rescue personnel had arrived. This triggered fury in the community. Residents questioned the slow response as the tragedy unfolded. The official death toll for the state sits at 11. One more person died in Charaideo district. Across 11 districts, more than 3.10 lakh people remain trapped. The situation stays grim. "The incident has sparked outrage among villagers, who questioned the delay in the rescue response."
