Guwahati: Four family members went missing Sunday night after being swept away by floodwaters in Assam’s Charaideo district. The tragedy hit Lakuba Abhayapuriya village, located under the Tengapukhuri Police Station, around 7 pm.
Floodwaters forced Rohini Dubara and his family to abandon their home for higher ground. Disaster struck on a submerged road. Tutumoni Dubara and her daughter, Bidisha Dubara, lost their footing and vanished into the current. Two sons, Bidyut Dubara and Biplab Dubara, dove into the water to save them. They were dragged away as well.
The family reached out for help immediately. They called the district administration’s emergency helpline but claimed they received no response. They eventually spoke with Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Neha Yadav, who promised to dispatch a rescue team. Villagers grew angry as time ticked on. They claimed that by 1 pm Monday, "no rescue personnel or police team had reached the spot."
This disappearance adds to a mounting death toll in the state. Recent fatalities pushed the count to 11 across Assam. Over 3.10 lakh people currently face the impact of flooding across 11 districts.
