Shillong: Activists stood down Thursday. The KSU South East Central Circle and the FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle halted their plan to fix a battered stretch of the Shillong-Pynursla road. They showed up near Laitlyngkot village with tools in hand, but found the state government and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited already on the scene. The groups initially mobilized because their repeated pleas for government action went ignored.
Officials from the Pynursla Civil Sub-Division and the NHIDCL confirmed they have orders to build a temporary subway for light vehicles. This bridge between the immediate fix and a permanent restoration kept the peace. Police stood nearby to keep watch as the groups held a quick meeting to assess the project.
The organizations officially agreed to step back for now. They left behind a clear warning for the contractors. The groups stated they would "continue to watch the progress of the restoration" and promised further action if the work drags on. Everyone is waiting to see if the authorities meet the deadline.
