Guwahati: Dispur Police officers detained two men Saturday morning for painting a portrait of activist Sonam Wangchuk on a wall near Jyoti Bishnu Bhawan. The pair lacked authorization to use the public roadside space for their artwork. Police identified the suspects as Nakul Mili from Dibrugarh and Gaurav Singh from the Dakshin Gaon area of Guwahati.

Officers on night patrol caught the men in the act. The duo broke the Chief Minister's directive against defacing public property. Officials registered FIR 524/26 at the Dispur Police Station to document the violation. Legal proceedings are now underway.

The men will go free once they receive formal notices to report to the lead investigator. Police noted that legal rules require strict adherence to the process. "No one is permitted to paint or deface public or government property without prior permission," police warned.

Authorities are currently hunting for others. A separate case exists at the Basistha Police Station regarding illicit paintings found beneath the Basistha Flyover. Investigators expect to detain those responsible for the flyover incident soon as the crackdown on property defacement continues.
