Guwahati: Katigorah police rounded up two men late at night following a crackdown on the illicit booze trade. Officers raided several shops across the Cachar district to shutter operations accused of peddling liquor without a license for months. They caught the pair red-handed.
Authorities identified the detainees as Joykumar Das and Bappajit Dey. Cops hauled away a substantial quantity of booze during the operation. They remain in custody for questioning.
Investigators are tracking the source of the alcohol to map out the full extent of the scheme. Local officials describe the move as part of ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized activity in the region. According to reports, "police carried out raids at several locations following allegations that liquor was being sold illegally from multiple shops in the area for a prolonged period." Further legal action will follow the investigation.
