Guwahati: Assam police smashed an illegal gambling operation inside a Dhubri hotel on July 20. Officers moved in at 11:15 am after getting a tip. They raided Room 57 at Afreen Hotel on N.S. Road. Four men were caught red-handed running the betting scheme.
The suspects include Haran Ali, 20, of Kalapakani Part-II; Abdul Matin, 20, of Balughat; Hosen Ali, 20, of Kalapakani Part-II; and Osman Gani, 22, of Kalapakani Part-II. Police seized six mobile phones from the group. Digital scans of the hardware uncovered massive financial movements.
Pritam Das, Officer-in-Charge of Dhubri Sadar Police Station, confirmed the scope of the operation. He noted that the betting racket involved foreign currencies, saying, "Records found on the mobile devices indicate that the racket involved transactions in US dollars and other foreign currencies, suggesting the possibility of a wider international network."
The four men remain in custody. Detectives are now digging into the seized records to map out the rest of the network. The investigation continues.
