Kohima: Peren district officials gathered at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall on September 7 to map out regional growth. The District Planning and Development Board meeting tackled a packed agenda, ranging from infrastructure oversight to festival planning. Local MLA and board chairman Namri Nchang demanded total commitment from the staff. He told the room that “collective efforts were essential to bring about significant development in the district.”
Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru took the floor to audit recent performances. He praised the departments for their work during the 80th Independence Day celebrations, though he slammed the low attendance at monthly mass social work events. Meru ordered department heads to police the quality of ongoing construction projects at the District Headquarters. They must avoid future defects at all costs.
The board shifted the 2026 Inter-Departmental Tournament from Peren to Jalukie Town due to arena shortages. The games will take place at the Jalukie Indoor Badminton Stadium in early October. Meanwhile, the Mini Hornbill Festival moved to October 29 through 31. The NZPO requested help from the Agriculture and Allied sectors to build out exhibition stalls for the event. Further support is needed from Horticulture, Agriculture, NSRLM, and Industries and Commerce to ensure the 2nd Edition of the King Chilli Festival at New Puilwa Village succeeds.
Officials also greenlit the registration of the Benreu Brotherhood Club. This follows verification from the EAC of Ngwalwa. The session wrapped up with updates from Urban Development, Education, and Economics and Statistics departments. Youth Resources and the Forest Department will present their findings at the next meeting.
