Peren Officials Launch Legal Drive for Unorganised Workers

Kohima: The Peren District Legal Services Authority hit the streets of Samziuram village on July 23. They teamed up with the Department of Labour and the District Disaster Management Authority to find workers in the unorganised sector. It was a door to door mission. The group wanted to inform residents about legal rights, social security benefits, and the aid offered by Legal Services Institutions.

Officials leaned into the details of workplace safety, relief measures, and disaster rehabilitation. They pushed for better registration numbers under labour welfare schemes. The team specifically targeted the NBOCWWB cards issued by the Labour Department. Staff worked through the village to maximize contact with locals.

The effort successfully identified 49 eligible workers. This group included drivers, manual labourers, electricians, construction workers, masons, and carpenters. Every single one received help to sign up for their benefits. As the drive wrapped up, organizers stressed the importance of these protections, noting that “The drive aimed to educate workers and victims of disaster about their legal rights, welfare schemes, social security benefits and the legal assistance available through Legal Services Institutions.”
