Kohima: Election officials in Peren met October 21 at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall. They gathered to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Sotsula, the Electoral Roll Observer and Commissioner & Secretary of DUDA, chaired the session. Attendees included Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Hiazu Meru, plus various Electoral Registration Officers, their assistants, supervisors, and political party representatives.
Meru praised the field staff for their hard work. He pushed for speed. The team must finish all procedures before the first week of November. He also asked political parties to train their Booth Level Agents and maintain steady communication with local officials.
Sotsula emphasized high standards. She demanded transparency and total integrity. The staff must cross-check every record to remove the names of deceased voters. They must also scrutinize polling station transfers. "A thorough and systematic revision would help maintain reliable electoral records and minimise complaints," Sotsula said.
The meeting set October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Any person turning 18 by that day can register. Officials discussed ground-level hurdles and coordination needs. Anyone needing help or clarification during the revision period should call the helpline at 9436617597.
