Kohima: Nagaland United Sports Club makes history this year. The Chumoukedima-based team becomes the first from the state to join the Indian Football League. The 2026-27 season starts October 30. They face Real Kashmir at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar for their first match.

The club secured its spot by acquiring the sporting rights of Aizawl FC. The All India Football Federation approved the deal. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence in Sovima on Thursday. He marked the office opening and the launch of the Elevenses Cafe Lounge. Rio said, "NUSC’s participation marked the beginning of a new journey and urged the team to perform to the best of its ability."

Local leaders and sports fans founded the club in 2024. They finished third in the 2025 Nagaland Super League. Home games take place at the Chumoukedima Football Stadium. This will bring the national league to Nagaland for the first time. The team joins Northeast rivals like Shillong Lajong and Chanmari in the competition.

Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along and MLA KT Sukhalu attended the launch event. League CEO Nildeep Mondal and head of operations Abhishek Yadav were also there. The group finished the day at Zone Niathu in Chumoukedima for the IFL Trophy Tour and the reveal of three new jerseys.
