Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a plan to overhaul agricultural credit and infrastructure. The state aims to cover 3.49 lakh Kisan Credit Card accounts. This initiative helps farmers clear overdue debts to regain institutional credit access. Expenses for this resolution fall on the government, the banks, and the farmers themselves. Officials have already processed loans worth 1,741.15 crore under this specific framework.

The government set a 2,050 crore goal for the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. This program offers loans up to 22 crore for qualified projects. Farmers receive lower interest rates for a seven-year span, provided they meet scheme guidelines. The state also steps in to support the initial contributions required from the farmers.

Sarma shared these updates on X, framing the projects as a way to reach a more self-reliant state. He stated, "The initiatives are part of the government's vision to build a more prosperous and self-reliant Assam by improving access to finance and supporting farmers."

A third effort brings PepsiCo together with a bank to assist potato growers. This partnership provides credit for cultivation costs. It also ensures farmers gain access to high-quality agricultural inputs. These connections aim to lift productivity and link local growers more effectively to the broader market.
