Gangtok: Sikkim voters scrubbed from the new Final Electoral Roll have a narrow 15-day window to challenge their exclusion. Chief Electoral Officer Raj Yadav confirmed the timeline following the release of the updated rolls on September 6. Displaced voters should hit the District Collectorate first. If that fails, they can take the fight to the CEO office.
The Election Commission cut 54,209 people during its Special Intensive Revision. This includes 37,724 voters flagged as absent, shifted, dead, or duplicate. Another 16,485 failed to prove their eligibility during formal hearings. Officials issued 1,24,519 notices after IT systems flagged 52,384 logical discrepancies and found 72,135 names unmapped.
Sikkim now holds 4,18,467 voters. This reflects a 3.42 percent drop from the initial draft roll of 4,33,294. The breakdown currently sits at 2,12,534 males, 2,05,931 females, and two third-gender electors. The exercise began with 4,71,018 names. Booth Level Officers collected 91.99 percent of required enumeration forms.
Specific death tolls accounted for 10,837 deletions, while 14,603 people moved. Officials removed 8,648 untraceable voters and 2,396 duplicate entries. Upper Burtuk took the hardest hit with 3,731 deletions. Shyari-BL followed with 3,265 losses.
The claims process ran from July 5 to August 4. Staff processed 2,052 inclusion requests and 16,867 objections. Only 1,982 new names made the final cut. Yadav encouraged everyone left out to verify their status immediately. "CEO Raj Yadav urged electors whose names are missing to make use of the 15-day appeal mechanism, beginning with the District Collectorate and escalating the matter to the CEO's office if necessary."
