Gangtok: Sikkim BJP leaders stood by the Election Commission on September 28. They rejected opposition claims that the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls involved manipulation. Party spokesperson Pasang Gyali Sherpa said the commission's joint statement killed off several misleading narratives. Sherpa noted the full commission unanimously approved all major regulatory decisions.
The commission clarified that a separate memo to the Cabinet Secretary involved only an officer on deputation. It had no link to the IT division or the revision process. Sherpa defended the Form-6 declaration, noting that the Supreme Court already upheld it. Statutory rules from 1960 remain in play for any non-revision work.
The commission is pushing to boost turnout. Booth Level Officers are heading door-to-door to grab forms. They also set up outreach camps for labourers and homeless residents in night shelters. Sherpa challenged opposition parties to get involved by naming Booth Level Agents to watch the process at every polling site.
Sherpa called the accusations against his party completely baseless and devoid of factual foundation. He demanded that critics bring evidence rather than just talk. The BJP maintains that the electoral process is clean. "The poll panel's clarification provides important factual context," Sherpa said. He urged all stakeholders to respect constitutional institutions and the legal path.
