Kohima: The Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) held its second-year Mission Vision-2045 event at Ongpangkong Salang this past Saturday. The initiative provides annual financial support to deserving students from the Ongpangkong Range. Each student receives Rs 50,000. Village unions pick the winners based on financial need.
Advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, Daochier I Imchen, attended as guest of honor. Imchen pledged to personally sponsor two students every year during his term as MLA using his Local Area Development Programme fund. He emphasized the power of dedication. "Time was a person's greatest asset," he told the students, urging them to reflect and improve themselves.
Imchen invoked the legacy of late N.I. Jamir, who utilized community support to eventually serve as Chief Secretary and Cabinet Minister. He advised the students to serve their community with a similar spirit. The 20-year project officially runs from 2025 to 2045. It began after being adopted at the 39th OKM General Conference in Kupza Village, held from January 17 to 19, 2024.
Recipients for 2026 are Imlijungla from Mekuli Kaketshir Telongjem and Arizongla Leo from Khensa Kaketshir Telongjem. Officials confirmed that 2027 support will go to students from Chuchuyimpang Kaketshir Telongjem and Aliba Kaketshir Telongjem. Imchen also promised separate sponsorship for two students from Kupza Kaketshir Telongjem and Aliba Kaketshir Telongjem.
The event featured opening remarks by OKM President Tongpangmangyang Kichu. Speakers included Asangtila, President of Ongpangkong Tetsur Mungdang, and Bendangkumzuk Aier, President of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang. Previous beneficiaries Etidangla of Mangmetong Kaketshir Telongjem and Moarenba of Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem shared their progress at the ceremony.
