Kohima: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union issued a three-day ultimatum to the state Department of Higher Education on Monday. They demand the immediate release of pending Post-Matric Scholarship funds for the 2025-26 academic year. Thousands of students face hardship. The money is overdue.
Union President Kivika Yeptho and General Secretary Sotilo Tep sent the formal letter to the Ex-Officio Director of Higher Education. They slammed the department for failing to meet its own July 18 deadline for the payouts. The union officials stated, "This irresponsible conduct has severely eroded the confidence of students in the department and reflects a lack of accountability towards their welfare."
The union also called on the Higher Education Minister to step in. They want to avoid a fight. If the department ignores this deadline, the union plans to launch a democratic mass agitation to protect student rights. The ANCSU insists the department will be held solely responsible for any fallout.
For now, the union told students to stay calm. They asked the student body to avoid unauthorized protests until the three-day window closes. The union will act only if the government fails to start the payments by the deadline.
