Guwahati: Parents of students at the Allen Institute in Dibrugarh are up in arms. They claim the coaching center stripped away promised scholarship benefits six months into the academic year. These families expected discounted tuition based on entrance exam performance. Now, the institute demands full payment.
The policy flip has caused widespread panic. Families face unexpected financial pressure and fear for their children's academic futures. Parents argue the school changed the rules long after the ink dried on admission contracts. They demand the institute honor the original deal.
The Youth Commission is watching this dispute closely. They have threatened to take the fight to the streets if the school does not reverse the decision. The commission insists the institute must clarify its scholarship policy immediately to address the growing list of grievances.
Protesters want the promised aid restored. Parents warned they will launch full-scale demonstrations if authorities fail to resolve the crisis. "The issue has also drawn the attention of the Youth Commission, which has taken up the matter and warned of a street protest if the alleged decision is not withdrawn," according to reports. The institute remains silent on the allegations as the dispute heats up.

The pressure worked. Following a meeting between Assam State Youth Commission chairman Taranga Gogoi, commission member Bhaskar Papukon Gogoi, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the institute scrapped the controversial notification. The scholarship program remains active for the current academic year.
Bhaskar Papukon Gogoi confirmed the reversal, stating that students are officially off the hook for any extra fees. As he put it, "The scholarship will continue. The notification for this year has been cancelled."
