Guwahati: The Noa River smashed through an embankment in Mangaldoi on Wednesday, August 5. The surge pushed floodwaters into more than ten villages across Assam's Darrang district. Persistent rain keeps the river levels rising. The situation is dire.

Outola, Bengabora, Mathanga, Ahaka, Akelibari, Kapili Satra, Bechimari, and Durgagaon are underwater. Houses, roads, and farm fields remain submerged as families scramble to find safety. Many people fled their homes on their own to escape the encroaching tide.

State Cabinet Minister Nilima Devi visited the scene to assess the damage. She ordered district officials to speed up rescue operations and provide food, temporary shelter, and medical supplies to the victims. Emergency crews are currently combing the area to assist anyone still trapped by the water. "State Cabinet Minister Nilima Devi reviewed the flood situation and directed district officials to expedite rescue and relief operations in the affected areas."

Authorities are watching the river closely. More rain is expected in the coming days. The district administration warned people living in low-lying spots to stay alert for further evacuation orders.
