Guwahati: A breach in the Disang river embankment turned the Mahmora constituency into a lake overnight. Floodwaters surged into 70 to 80 villages across the Charaideo district. It is a disaster. Residents say water levels reached chest height in courtyards, trapping families who had never seen their land flood before.
Hardest hit areas include Jajoli, Doba, Moranjan, Laiseng, Borchahaki, Dhemajibil, and Kasupathar. Lechaihabi, Bishrampur, Paramani, Khokamara, and Jajoli Pukhuri also took on water. The list of submerged homes continues with Maudumoni, Hatiborua, and both 1 No. and 2 No. Halouguri. Families fled with their cattle, goats, and livestock, piling up along roadsides to escape the rising tide.
The district administration set up relief camps and brought in medical teams. Still, the situation is dire. Eastern Assam remains under siege from relentless rain and overflowing rivers. Locals are pleading for help. One resident noted, "Residents have appealed for more relief materials, drinking water and essential supplies as they continue to grapple with the unprecedented flood situation." Thousands remain displaced across the region with no sign of the water receding.
