Guwahati: Recovery teams pulled a body from the Dikhow River in Sivasagar on July 25. The remains were trapped in a bamboo clump under the New Dikhow Bridge. Police and disaster response workers arrived at the site to retrieve the victim. Authorities are currently working to confirm the identity of the deceased.
The family of Amlan Borgohain believes the body is his. Borgohain, a resident of Mechagarh, disappeared on July 23. He went to the riverbank with friends to watch the rising floodwaters before the current swept him away. His family states he was "washed away by the swollen Dikhow River."
This recovery adds to the mounting death toll across Assam. Frequent flood-related fatalities have plagued the state as dangerous currents continue to threaten local residents. Officials are processing the scene as the investigation moves forward.
