Guwahati: Floods in Assam’s Lakhimpur district claimed one life and left two teenagers missing over the last 24 hours. The state remains under water after heavy rains pushed river levels to dangerous heights.

Prasanta Duwarah, 49, died Wednesday evening in Simaluguri. He was clearing water hyacinths from a Balijan River bridge to fish when the current swept him away. His body turned up Thursday morning after a State Disaster Response Force team launched a recovery mission. Officials sent the remains to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.

Search efforts continue for two missing boys feared drowned in the Subansiri River at Chawuldhowaghat. Nirmal Nath, 16, and Satya Nath, 15, disappeared Wednesday while swimming. Both boys live in Thekeraguri village. Rescue crews have scoured the river since the incident, but the boys remain lost. Local authorities are warning the public to stay away from the swollen rivers, stating, "authorities urging residents to stay away from swollen rivers and floodwaters."
