NIOS Reopens Teacher Bridge Course Portal Under Court Orders

Kohima: The National Institute of Open Schooling reopened its registration portal for the six-month Bridge Course for primary teachers. This move follows a series of interim court orders. The portal remains open from July 30 until August 30, 2026. Interested teachers can apply at https://bridge.nios.ac.in.

The Supreme Court ruled on April 8, 2024, in the case of Devesh Sharma vs Union of India and Ors, that certain teachers hired with B.Ed degrees between June 28, 2018, and August 10, 2023, must finish the course. While the original admission window shut on July 19, 2026, various teachers challenged the mandate. Several high courts, including the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur, heard these petitions.

Teachers seeking entry must meet strict criteria. They must be petitioners in active writ petitions with a valid, subsisting interim order that allows provisional enrollment. The enrollment must not fall under the April 2024 Supreme Court judgment or the existing National Council for Teacher Education Recognition Order. Furthermore, the reliance on any interim order requires that the order remains unstayed and active. The notification F. No. 82-20/2025/NIOS/CBC/BRIDGE/Corr. dated July 28, 2026, outlines these requirements. The Directorate of School Education noted the development after the courts granted a "further and final period of 15 days to reopen the portal."
