Kohima: Nagaland launched the NSEDM-IDAN Japanese Language Centre at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on July 15. The opening coincided with World Youth Skills Day 2026. Officials want to prepare local youth for jobs in Japan and other international markets.
Temjenmenba, Advisor for Higher Education and Technical Education, inaugurated the facility. He told the crowd that government sectors cannot hire every educated graduate. He urged students to find work in the private sector and entrepreneurship. He also pushed for practical training in emerging fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning. Government employment alone cannot absorb the growing number of educated youth, he said.
The Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM), operating under the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), runs the centre. Vineet Kumar, Additional Secretary and Project Manager at NSEDM, confirmed the mission has trained over 3,500 people since its October 2025 launch. About 800 students are currently in training. More than 1,000 people have already secured jobs or started their own businesses.
The centre represents a deeper partnership between Nagaland and Japan. Officials view language proficiency as a requirement for competitive global employment. The event also honoured 15 youth achievers who found success in trades like masonry, automobile servicing, hospitality, and beauty and wellness. These individuals act as role models for others seeking non-government careers.
Meripeni, Under Secretary and Project Lead, delivered closing remarks. She thanked IDAN Chairman Abu Metha and Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen for their leadership. The state remains committed to expanding these programs alongside various training partners.
