Kohima: Nagaland officials opened the Japanese Language Centre in Kohima on July 15. The facility helps local youth land jobs in Japan and other global markets. The launch coincided with World Youth Skills Day. The Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission, or NSEDM, operates the centre under the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland. Officials want to move beyond the saturated public sector job market.

Temjenmenba, Advisor for Higher Education and Technical Education, presided over the launch at the Capital Convention Centre. He urged the state's young people to pursue technical fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning. He noted, "Government employment alone cannot absorb the growing number of educated youth."

The mission has ambitious training targets. Established in October 2025, NSEDM has trained 3,500 people to date. Roughly 800 students are currently enrolled in various vocational courses. Over 1,000 former trainees have already found jobs or started their own businesses. These individuals work in masonry, automobile servicing, hospitality, and beauty and wellness sectors.

Vineet Kumar, the project manager for NSEDM, described the centre as a primary pillar of the partnership between Nagaland and Japan. The state recognized 15 young achievers during the event. These role models represent a shift toward entrepreneurship and vocational expertise. Kumar confirmed the government will keep expanding these training programs to ensure the economic future of the state.
