Shillong: Sansilstone Sangma went to the Enforcement Directorate office on August 27 after receiving a summons. He expected to give a statement. Instead, his lawyer says he left with injuries. Advocate Niksrang Ch. Marak filed a formal complaint at the Nongmynsong police station accusing an ED official named Shekar Kumar of physical abuse.
Sangma claims he was calm and fully cooperative during the interrogation. The lawyer argues the force used by Kumar was, as stated in the complaint, "wholly unwarranted and disproportionate." The assault allegedly left Sangma with pain and swelling in his forearm and hand. He sought immediate medical attention at Civil Hospital, Shillong, to document his injuries.
The legal team now wants the police to act fast. They have demanded that authorities seize all CCTV footage from the ED premises to catch the incident on tape. They want the raw server data from the rooms, corridors, and exit points locked down before anyone can delete it. Marak also asked investigators to gather medical reports and identify everyone who was in the building during the session.
The complaint suggests the behavior violates the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Marak left it to police to decide the exact charges but insisted on a fair look at the evidence. He wants statements from witnesses and a full review of the officer’s actions. Police have yet to establish if the claims hold up.
