Imphal: Police in Manipur’s Kamjong district seized 30 litres of illicit distilled indigenous country liquor on August 30. The bust followed intelligence from local Naga women regarding illegal shipments near the Myanmar border. Chassad Police Station officers stopped a Tata truck and took the driver into custody. They identified the man as 45-year-old Rafikuddin, son of Habibur Rahman, from Cachar, Assam. Officers poured the liquor out near the station gate. The investigation continues.
Security forces hit another target in Kakching district on August 29. A combined unit of the CDO Unit Kakching and the 46 Assam Rifles arrested two men for alleged extortion. They caught 26-year-old Yumnam Rohenjit Meitei, an active cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, at his home. Officials also grabbed his alleged accomplice, 26-year-old Shakachand Yumnam, at his residence.
The raid turned up a cache of military gear. Troops recovered 27 live INSAS rounds, two empty magazines, a BAOFENG handset, and a bulletproof jacket. Other seized items included two slings, tactical boots, and a pouch. The Manipur Police stated on social media, "The liquor was later destroyed by the team and Kamjong Womenfolk near..." Authorities are working to connect the men to wider criminal operations.
