Imphal: Gunfire erupted near Huimin Thana on October 15. A patrol team from the Eastern Command Naga Village Guard came under heavy fire from suspected Kuki National Army-Burma militants and Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone. The ambush started at 4:30 pm. Both sides traded bullets for an hour before the guards forced the attackers to retreat.
One civilian defence volunteer took serious wounds during the fight. Local residents stepped in to help, rushing the man to Kamjong District Hospital for care. The NVG-EC claims the attackers sustained unknown casualties. No government help arrived.
This skirmish marks another spike in border violence. The NVG-EC says the assault fits a pattern of aggression against Tangkhul Naga villages that started on May 7, 2026. The violence has already hit Z. Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee. The group blames the combined KNA-B and VVEZ forces for killing four villagers at Pilong on September 24 and two more at Ningchou on October 10.
The NVG-EC reported six total civilian deaths plus destroyed homes. They blasted local authorities for leaving border residents exposed. "The organisation also claimed that the attackers suffered casualties, although it did not provide details." Moving forward, the guards promised to defend their land and told Naga youth to stay united against the threat.
