Kohima: Attracting outside investment to Nagaland remains a difficult fight. Hekani Jakhalu, MLA and Advisor for Industries and Commerce, identified corporate reluctance and the Protected Area Permit regime as primary roadblocks. She noted that while the government advertises the state as a peaceful investment destination, companies perform independent checks that eventually lead them elsewhere.
Addressing the business reality, Jakhalu said, "Business is not charity. It's not about you coming and just doling out some cash. Even if business is for one rupee, they are going to make sure that that one rupee that they are investing is secured."
Jakhalu spoke October 16 at a two-day Futsal-cum-Job and Career Fair held in Toluvi village. The NPF Dimapur-III Youth Wing and YouthNet organized the event to connect young people with 12 companies and departments. These organizations are offering training, skill development, and jobs. The futsal competition features 34 teams. Jakhalu told the youth of 3 Dimapur-III to buckle up and stop chasing only grade-4 government posts. She urged them to pursue entrepreneurship and step out of their comfort zones.
On infrastructure, Jakhalu acknowledged local traffic issues. She reported that she pushed to improve the Bamunpukhuri road to connect the Toluvi Industrial Park to the NH 29 four-lane highway. This route now helps drivers avoid congested market zones. However, she confirmed that the three MLAs in the district have not yet met to coordinate on broader traffic solutions like new flyovers.
