Kohima: The District Industries Centre hosted a one day workshop on coffee this Wednesday in Mokokchung. The event focused on branding, packaging, and marketing strategies for local farmers. It is part of the One District One Product national initiative. This program identifies products that show a specific district's unique strength.
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma addressed the crowd. He pushed for value addition and high quality standards. He said, "Coffee is among the most desired beverages globally" and he hopes local growers will meet the demand. Mokokchung is quickly turning into a hub for coffee drinkers.
General Manager B. Asangla explained that coffee represents the district's primary economic potential. The district currently maintains 820 hectares of coffee across 72 villages. Farmers produce 25 to 30 metric tonnes every year. Asangla believes this event will help turn local beans into a sustainable brand.
The initiative aims to build a strong coffee ecosystem. Officials want to encourage more entrepreneurs to enter the market. This workshop serves as the first major step in that mission.
