Guwahati: Shourav Jyoti Das added 5,000 Sonali layer birds to his poultry operation in Patacharkuchi. He launched this expansion to boost local egg production. The move follows a direct appeal from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The state leader wants Assam to stop relying on eggs brought in from outside sources.
Das started his venture three years ago. He now runs an integrated farm. His property includes broiler poultry, fish ponds, duck rearing, indigenous chicken, and goat husbandry. This mix ensures steady cash flow through every season. It makes smart use of all available land.
"The Chief Minister’s appeal to make Assam self-reliant in egg production inspired me to expand my poultry farm with 5,000 layer birds. I believe agriculture and poultry farming offer immense opportunities for young entrepreneurs," Das said. He hopes his success motivates other youths to build businesses instead of chasing government jobs.
The Assam government continues to push poultry farming programs. These schemes aim to help rural entrepreneurs and increase the state's total egg output. Das is betting that hard work in the sector will pay off.
