Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held high-level reviews at Lok Sewa Bhawan on August 31. He targeted major upgrades for the state tax system and the dairy sector. The administration needs a boost. Sarma demanded a technology-driven, citizen-centric approach for the Commissionerate of Taxes. Officials plan to restructure the department, add specialized professionals, and increase total manpower.
Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai attended the session. They discussed improving revenue collection and institutional capacity. The team wants better services for all taxpayers.
Sarma pivoted to agriculture later that day. He laid out a five-year roadmap to grow milk production. The state will expand cooperative networks and fix processing infrastructure. The Chief Minister ordered a new livestock survey to assess existing resources. He also pushed to fill open departmental vacancies immediately. Officials will hold a multi-stakeholder brainstorming session to map out specific challenges and opportunities.
The plan highlights the conservation of the indigenous Lakhimi cattle breed. Sarma wants women-led cooperative societies to lead this effort. These groups aim to bolster rural livelihoods and protect local livestock. The government intends to build a stronger dairy ecosystem across the entire state. As Sarma noted, the administration is focused on "strengthening a modern, technology-driven and citizen-centric revenue administration."
