Mokokchung College Marks UN Day with Annual Lecture

Kohima: Fazl Ali College hosted the 8th Annual Lecture of the Political Science Association on October 26. The event marked United Nations Day under the theme, Stronger Together: Renewing the Promise of the United Nations. Assistant Commissioner Dr. Madhavi R, an IAS officer based in Mokokchung, served as the keynote speaker.

She traced the history of the United Nations since its 1945 founding. Peace remains the primary goal. Nations must embrace multilateralism to fight climate change, conflict, and inequality. Cooperation works best when countries value unity over uniformity. Respecting differences is mandatory for progress.

The talk connected global principles to local realities. Dr. Madhavi R noted that small villages solving crises through collective action mirror the core UN mission. She pushed for moving past individual interests to embrace a broader perspective. Civilisation progresses when societies shift from me to we.

The lecture touched on India's deep role in peacekeeping missions. It also covered the Sustainable Development Goals and the need for inclusive growth. Discussion turned to the Northeast, emphasizing that cultural diversity must coexist with shared aspirations. Dr. Lipokrenla, head of the Political Science Department, opened the session. Students closed the day with a question and answer segment.
