Kohima: The Ao Students’ Conference hosted its 64th Teachers’ Day celebration on September 5 at Whispering Winds in Mokokchung. Officials honored four educators with the 2026 District Teachers’ Award. The District Selection Committee chose the recipients based on their meritorious service.
Award winners include Kangabam Rajenkumar Singh from Government High School, Longjang; Pusumenla Pongener from Assam Rifles School; Sentimenla from PM SHRI Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School; and Shiluyongdang from Government Middle School, Chungtiayimsen. Lanulemba Longchar, the AKM president, opened the event.
EAC Kewimesin Nriame attended on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner. Nriame noted that technology provides data, but machines cannot mimic human connection. She said, "Technology and artificial intelligence could provide information but could not replace the human relationship between teachers and students." The event pushed for a community-wide effort to focus on responsible citizenship rather than simple test scores.
District Education Officer Arenla called for safer and more creative schools. A representative from the ANPSA Mokokchung Unit praised the patience of educators. Ladybird School performed a special musical number to mark the occasion.
Pusumenla Pongener spoke for the group of awardees. She thanked the AKM and the selection committee for the honor. Pongener added that the award encourages the recipients to serve their students with greater commitment.
