Shillong: Four students earned top honors in Mawkyrwat on Saturday. The Maniwell Jahrin Academic Trust handed out its 20th annual awards at the Maharam Government Higher Secondary School auditorium. The recipients reached the high bar of scoring at least 75 percent in their SSLC examinations.
This year the awardees are Sunshinestar Nongsiej, Saveful Kharjahrin, Banjoplang Lyngdoh, and Banpyntngen Nongsiej. The trust started in 2004 to celebrate academic talent. It honors the legacy of the late Maniwell S. Jahrin through the work of his children.
Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L. Tongkhar served as the chief guest for the event. He appeared alongside church leader Rev. S.I. Iawphniaw and family members Pearly Syiem Marak and Tony T.C. Marak. Teachers and students also filled the room.
Tongkhar praised the students for their hard work. He urged them to stick to their goals and build lives based on strong character. During his address, the legislator told the crowd, "cultivate moral integrity and lead principled, God-fearing lives."
