Shillong: The Shillong Shreehatta Sammilanee honored 48 high-achieving students from the Bengali community this Saturday. The event took place at the Shillong Bangiya Sahitya Parishad Auditorium to celebrate the 206th birth anniversary of social reformer Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar.
Former Education Minister Manas Chaudhuri served as the chief guest. He joined other local dignitaries to mark the occasion. The group recognized students for top performances in recent final exams from the MBoSE, CBSE, ISC, and ICSE boards.
The organization also handed out cash to students struggling with money. These recipients live across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills. The SSS highlighted the enduring impact of Vidyasagar during the ceremony. Officials stated the goal was to "honour the achievers and pay tribute to the legacy of the legendary social reformer."
