Shillong: A delegation from the Meghalaya Hindu Mission Children Home met Governor CH Vijayashankar at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday. The group, including 26 children, Assistant In-charge Advocate R. Paul, case worker Anita Deb, warden Shekar Mech, teacher KB Prasad Pandey, and Additional Chief Secretary HC Chaudhary, discussed the institution's upcoming October centenary. Established in 1926, the home provides shelter and support to vulnerable youth. The Governor encouraged the children to pursue their education with determination.
NIFT Shillong launched a three-day orientation for its new national intake. Anil Kariwala of Kariwala Industries Ltd. and Dr. Ravi Shankar Bhakat from IIM Shillong headlined the event. Kariwala pushed students to embrace innovation. He noted: "Think globally while remaining rooted in India’s rich cultural heritage. Creative work begins with a deeper understanding of people, purpose and responsibility."
South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai is seeking applicants for the 23rd Meritorious Award for 2026. The program recognizes students from the 19th South Shillong constituency who earned a first division or higher in Class X and XII exams during the 2025-26 session. This covers SSLC, HSSLC, ICSE, CBSE, ISC, and NIOS boards. Bona fide residents, along with underprivileged and differently abled students who passed in any division, may apply.
Finally, the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya secured Section 12(B) recognition from the UGC. This status makes the private university eligible for central grants, research funding, and international partnerships. Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque called the achievement a proud moment. Vice Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma stated the designation proves the university adheres to top academic standards.
