Aizawl: Mizoram officials are telling travelers to stay away. The state Tourism Department issued an advisory on Monday, July 13, urging visitors to delay or reschedule trips due to persistent, heavy rainfall. The government warns that ongoing weather conditions create significant safety risks and travel disruptions across the region.

Flooding hit Lunglei district hard. Nearly 100 families fled their homes in Tlabung town after the Khawthlangtuipui River surged near the Bangladesh border. The situation remains volatile as water levels fluctuate. Meanwhile, roughly 200 travelers are stuck at Bualte village. A massive landslide buried National Highway 54, the critical artery linking Lawngtlai and Siaha districts.

Crews are fighting to clear the mountain of dirt. Heavy machinery is on site, but fresh mudslides keep stalling the work. Authorities briefly cleared some lanes on the night of July 10, but renewed showers quickly shut the route down again.

Obstructions persist elsewhere. Rockfall and debris at Ngaizel, on the southern edge of Aizawl, continue to choke the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei highway. Farmland in the Serchhip district also sits under water after the Mat River burst its banks.

The India Meteorological Department reports that Serchhip saw the most rain over the last 24 hours at 34 mm. Other areas recorded significant totals: Khawzawl saw 17.5 mm, Siaha logged 16.5 mm, Lunglei reported 14 mm, and Aizawl hit 8.4 mm. Authorities are still monitoring the damage. They advise the public to avoid unnecessary movement until the state stabilizes, noting that "continued rainfall could lead to further disruptions and pose serious risks to travellers."
