Guwahati: Persistent downpours since Sunday morning turned Bokoliaghat into a swamp. Incessant rain submerged large swathes of the town, leaving roads underwater and daily life at a standstill.
Water pooled across villages under the Bokoliaghat Town Committee, blocking commuters and stifling movement. Hemsing Teron, the committee chairman, toured the mess to inspect the damage and hear out frustrated locals. He is working under orders from Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Executive Member Madhuram Lekthe.
The town faces constant flooding every time the clouds open up. Drainage is the main problem. Teron promised, "measures would be initiated at the earliest to improve the drainage system in Bokoliaghat." Officials hope these fixes provide a lasting solution to the recurring disaster.
