Aizawl: Mizoram officials warned tourists to stay away. Persistent monsoon rains triggered dangerous floods and landslides, paralyzing road networks across the state. The Tourism Department issued a formal advisory on Monday, July 13, telling visitors to delay trips until conditions improve. Anyone with existing bookings should change their plans. Continued rain threatens safety and transit.

A massive slide struck Tawipui South village at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14. It swept away two houses, an eatery, and a shop. Locals had spotted warning signs since July 9. Residents moved their belongings and cleared out before the hillside collapsed. Officials confirmed, "No casualties were reported as residents had been evacuated along with their belongings before the landslide struck."

This disaster severed National Highway 2, cutting off Lawngtlai district. Clearing work remains impossible. The hillside is still shifting. Elsewhere, the Khawthlangtuipui River flooded, forcing at least 100 families out of Tlabung town in Lunglei district. Another 200 passengers remain stranded after a major landslide cut National Highway 54. Attempts to clear the route failed when new rain caused fresh collapses.

The Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei Highway is also blocked by debris at Ngaizel. In Serchhip, rising water in the Mat River destroyed farmland. The India Meteorological Department recorded the highest rainfall in Serchhip at 34 mm over 24 hours. Khawzawl saw 17.5 mm, Siaha recorded 16.5 mm, Lunglei hit 14 mm, and Aizawl measured 8.4 mm. Forecasters expect more storms through Thursday.
